Marc-André Roy, New
Brunswick
Chief Page
Marc-André Roy hails
from Tracadie-Sheila, New Brunswick. He is in his third year
of a major in Political Science and a minor in History at
the University of Ottawa. Marc-André has always been
involved in student activities, particularly his school’s
grad committee and student radio. Marc-André received a
number of entrance scholarships to the University of Ottawa,
including the Canadian universities’ scholarship for
francophone schools. In June 2006, Marc-André published his
second youth novel entitled Les catacombes de Karnak. In his
spare time, Marc-André enjoys reading and writing, and would
one day like to travel to the four corners of the earth. He
is extremely proud to have been able to work in the Senate
of Canada as a Page for the past two years and now to have
the opportunity to serve as Chief Page.

Hannah Wyile, Nova
Scotia
Deputy Chief Page
Hannah Wyile was born to parents Herb and
Andrea in Fredericton, New Brunswick, grew up in Edmonton,
Alberta, and now hails from Wolfville, Nova Scotia. She
graduated from King’s-Edgehill School where she completed
the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme. She is
now studying towards a Combined Honours degree in Human
Rights and Political Science with a concentration in
International Relations. In high school, Hannah was Head
Girl, co-ordinated her school’s Amnesty International group,
and coached the Call to Remembrance team. In her grade 11
year she won the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal and the Harvard
Book Prize. Though nothing like her sports aficionado
younger sister Anikó, she has participated in a variety of
sports ranging from soccer to ultimate frisbee to track and
field. She is also a great lover of music; she plays piano,
flute, saxophone, and guitar, and has belonged to a variety
of bands. In her spare time she enjoys reading and spending
time with her family and friends. Hannah has always had an
avid interest in politics and is honoured to have the
opportunity to serve as Deputy Chief Page in the Senate of
Canada this year. |

Jeff K. Ahonoukoun,
Quebec
Jeff K. Ahonoukoun is
from Gatineau, Quebec. He is currently in his fourth year of
the International Studies and Modern Languages Program at
the University of Ottawa. He dreams of becoming a diplomat.
To achieve this, Jeff has engaged in various activities. In
his last year of high school, he received the Lieutenant
Governor of Quebec Award for his involvement in sports and
community life and academic excellence. At university, he co-founded
a Rights and Democracy delegation and the Société étudiante
des débats français de l'université d'Ottawa (SEDFUO) [University
of Ottawa French debate society], which he chaired in its
first year. In the last two summers, he worked for the
federal government at the Privy Council Office and Canadian
Heritage. Jeff is passionate about jazz and Latin music, and
likes to play basketball and squash in his free time.

Éric Beaudoin, Quebec
Born in St-Tite-des-Caps
in the Charlevoix region, Éric spent his adolescence in
Beauceville. He is the youngest child of Pierre Beaudoin and
Martine Bourget and a brother to Pierre-Luc. He graduated
from the St-François comprehensive school, where he received
many honours. An ardent promoter of official languages, he
took part in a six-month exchange program with a Franco-Manitoban
family.
In 2002, Éric was
selected to attend the prestigious Lester B. Pearson College,
a United World College, which welcomes students from over 85
countries. He graduated with a bilingual International
Baccalaureate diploma. His interest in volunteer work and
cultural diversity led Éric to do humanitarian work for a
year in the Northwest Territories, Quebec and Central
America.
As a recipient of the
2005 Loran Award, Éric, who also chairs the Loran Scholars’
Association, has been developing his skills in his areas of
interest such as languages, running, health, history and
politics. In the summer of 2006 he went to Beijing, China,
to learn Mandarin.
Currently in his fourth year in health
sciences, Éric is honoured to be part of the Senate Page
team for a second year and to work alongside great Canadian
politicians.

Mélanie Chartrand,
Ontario
Mélanie Chartrand, a
Franco-Ontarian from Orleans, is François and Suzanne’s
daughter, Jean-Philippe’s sister and Gabrielle’s
granddaughter. This year, she is in her final year of an
honours degree in social sciences, with a major in political
science and a minor in history, at the University of Ottawa.
She graduated from Béatrice Desloges High School with many
honours. She has received scholarships, including the Bourse
de la francophonie and the Ottawa Centre for Research and
Innovation (OCRI) Kildonan Education Award for excellence in
academic performance and extracurricular activities.
Mélanie, a young woman
with tremendous energy and a love of life, knows no bounds.
Adventurous by nature, she travelled to Australia on a
university exchange in 2008. In the fall of 2006, she rose
to the challenge of working as an interpretive guide at the
Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France, where she was
bitten by the travel bug. This experience allowed her to
meet veterans and talk to visitors from around the world.
She was honoured to represent Canada abroad. Mélanie’s
interest in Canadian political history was sparked while
working as a guide at the Parliament of Canada and Rideau
Hall for several years. She is proud to return to Parliament
Hill as a Senate Page.

Bronwyn Guiton,
British Columbia
Bronwyn was born in
beautiful British Columbia and calls North Vancouver home.
After five years at Sutherland secondary school she was
presented with several awards, including a Canadian
Millennium Scholarship. Experiences such as the Rotary
Club's Adventures in Citizenship, Capilano College's Global
Stewardship Program, and the French program called Explore
were Bronwyn's first steps towards becoming a Senate Page.
These programs focused her longstanding interest in current
affairs into tangible goals. In her spare time she enjoys
reading escapist fiction, scrapbooking, scuba diving, baking,
and socialising with friends old and new. This fall Bronwyn
will be entering her fourth year at the University of Ottawa
doing a Specialization in Political Science. Bronwyn is
honoured to have been chosen to serve the Senate of Canada
for a second year.

Maureen Hasinoff,
Alberta
Maureen was born and
raised in Edmonton and she is proud of being an Albertan.
She is the daughter of Darlene and the sister of Megan and
Sean. She graduated from M.E. LaZerte High School, were she
was Captain of the Swim Team as well as an active member of
the M.E. LaZerte Students Union.
Maureen is in her second
year of Political Sciences at the University of Ottawa.
Being a page for two years in the Alberta Legislature
sparked her interest to continue being a page on a national
level.
Maureen is an active member of the TUXIS
Parliament of Alberta and recently planned the 13th Western
Canada Youth Parliament that took place in Edmonton this
past May. Within this organization Maureen won the Pilot
Officer Ted Beard Memorial award for most improved new
member. Maureen has also won the Rutherford Scholarship for
academic honors in high school as well as the SUNIA district
scholarship. Maureen is extremely excited to be serving as a
page in the Senate and is very thankful for this wonderful
opportunity.

Marie-Michelle Jobin,
Ontario
Having grown up in a
military family, Marie-Michelle has lived in many cities
throughout Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia. The eldest
of three children, she graduated from É.S.C. Marie-Rivier in
Kingston after being a member of Student Council for two
consecutive years. Recipient of a Canadian Millennium
Scholarship, Marie-Michelle has taken part in many youth
conferences such as Forum for Young Canadians and the Future
World Leaders’ Summit. Aside from her political interests,
Marie-Michelle played on five of her school’s sports teams,
loves to travel, has an interest in foreign languages, and
plays both piano and guitar. As a volunteer, she spent one
month in Uganda on a humanitarian mission and is now the
Youth Ambassador of Buy-a-Net Malaria Prevention Group. In
September, she will be begin her studies at the University
of Ottawa in the fields of International Economics and
Development, in hopes of achieving her dream of working for
Doctors Without Borders. Marie-Michelle is honoured to have
been selected to serve the Senate of Canada.

Charlene Kwiatkowski,
British Colombia
Charlene hails from
Langley on the south coast of beautiful British Columbia.
She is the middle child of parents Larry and Carolyn and
sister to Leanne and Brendan. Charlene graduated from DW
Poppy Secondary School as the valedictorian. During her high
school years, Charlene was a member of the yearbook
committee, Amnesty International, and a leader of a student
Bible study. Her love for reading, writing and thinking has
led her to pursue a Bachelor of Humanities degree at
Carleton University, where she is currently in her third
year. She is taking a double minor in French and English
literature. Playing the piano, sewing, and scrapbooking are
some of Charlene’s favourite activities, although surfing is
quickly scaling the charts as well. Charlene is honoured and
thrilled to serve Canada’s Senators along with 14 other
youth from across the country.

Rebecca Liu,
Newfoundland and Labrador
Rebecca was born in
Ninxia, China and moved to Shanxi, China where she was
proudly raised by her grandparents until the age of 2. She
then moved to Edmonton, Alberta and finally to St. John's,
NL where she has lived for the past fourteen years. Rebecca
graduated with an International Baccalaureate and French
immersion diploma from high school where she was actively
involved in many committees and groups. She was also a
participative member of her municipal, provincial and
Chinese communities. She is a certified lifeguard, a past
Community Advisor with the University of Ottawa's Rez-life
team and was also a coordinator for the Summer Work Student
Exchange Program. She is now entering her final year at the
University of Ottawa's School of Management and aspires to
work with immigration and other international affairs. She
is honoured to be selected as a member of the Senate Page
team.

Marc-André LeBlanc,
New Brunswick
Marc-André, an only
child, is from the small community of Haute Aboujagane in
south-eastern New Brunswick. His parents, Rhéal and Zelma,
made him aware early on of the importance of volunteering
and community action. While in school, he served as a member
and chair of various committees, and sat on the student
councils of his elementary and high schools.
A proud francophone, Marc-André was an
active member of the Fédération des jeunes francophones du
Nouveau-Brunswick. Through this organization, he had
the opportunity to participate in a number of activities,
including several youth parliaments across Canada. For more
than two years, Marc-André hosted a weekly talk show on CJSE
Radio-Beauséjour, a radio serving the francophone community
of south-eastern New Brunswick. In the summer of 2007, he
took part in a Rotary exchange trip and lived with a French
family for over a month.

Jessica McLean,
Ontario
Jessica McLean is a
proud Franco Ontarian from a small town north of Sudbury and
is the last of a family of six. She is currently in her
fourth year in International studies and Modern languages
with a minor in French at the University of Ottawa. She is
presently studying Spanish and looks forward to learning
Arabic and many other languages.
Stressing the importance
of community participation, she has volunteered her time to
anti-tobacco activism, to the promotion of the francophone
culture in Ontario and to many fundraisers benefiting cancer
research, lupus and non-governmental organisations. She has
had the pleasure of participating in Forum for Young
Canadians at the federal parliament and has had the honour
of being elected student body president of her high school
and representing Canada at Presidential Classroom in
Washington. D.C.
She has a passion for
international politics, travelling and the arts. Jessica
aspires to work for developing countries and is humbled to
be serving the senators of her country.

Yumi Rahman, British
Colombia
Yumi Rahman was born and
raised in Vancouver, BC. She graduated in June 2007 from
York House School, where she was valedictorian, a member of
student government, as well as founder and president of the
Global Issues Club. It was through the fostering of the
brilliant staff at this institution that Yumi discovered her
passion for community service. She is proud to have been
awarded the Sherry Taylor Spirit award twice for her
contributions to the student body. Yumi is currently
pursuing a Bachelors of Arts Honours with a major in
Political Science and a minor in Muslim Studies at Carleton
University, where she is active in the debate society. When
she has a free moment, Yumi enjoys sailing, practicing the
flute, and CBC3 Radio Podcasts. She would like to extend her
love and thanks to her parents, Shelina Akther and Mohammed
Masadur Rahman; her siblings, Onami and Toshio; the
dedicated staff at York House School; and her friends, who
never fail to make her laugh. She is over the moon with the
opportunity to be serving the Senate of Canada.

Jonathan Williams,
Nova Scotia
Jonathan grew up
enjoying the beautiful Nova Scotian coast in Halifax and St.
Margaret's Bay. After studying for a year in Orleans,
France, with a scholarship from Nacel Canada, Jonathan
graduated from Sir John A. Macdonald High School in 2006.
From there, he jumped directly into a Canada World Youth
program in southern Brazil and then the spectacular west
coast of Newfoundland. Jonathan has a passion for languages
and in currently working as an English teacher in Peru. He
will be entering his second year of studies in the
International Development and Globalization program at the
University of Ottawa in the fall and eagerly looks forward
to the exceptional opportunity to work as a Senate Page.
Jonathan enjoys soccer, frisbee, listening to music and the
casual company of good friends.

Jonathan Yantzi,
Ontario
Born and raised in
Burlington, Ontario, Jonathan attributes much of his success
to the loving support of family and friends. Currently, he
is in his first year of studies, working toward an Honours
Political Science in French immersion degree at the
University of Ottawa. Jonathan recently completed a term as
Student Trustee for the Halton District School Board. A
passionate believer in the difference that a group of
empowered people can make, he contributed to a number of
first-time initiatives; the Ontario Students’ Assembly on
Electoral Reform, Burlington Central School’s Youth in
Action, and Burlington’s International Youth Leadership
Conference among them. Jonathan enjoys live theatre and
music, and has played the roles of “Pippin” in Pippin and
“Don Quixote” in Man of La Mancha in Central Company
productions, while also sharing several solo vocal
performances at school, church, and the wider community.
Jonathan is proud of his accomplishments, and eager to give
back to a country that has already given him so much. He is
humbled to have been selected to the Page Program, and looks
forward to an amazing year in the service of the Senate of
Canada. |
