In addition to those Parliamentary Associations and Interparliamentary Groups which have been recognized by the Joint Interparliamentary Council (JIC), there are a number of other interparliamentary groups, often referred to as “Friendship Groups”, which receive no administrative support or funding from the Parliament of Canada. Many of these groups, nevertheless, are quite active and play a role in supporting ongoing parliamentary relations with the identified country or in providing an opportunity for parliamentarians interested in a specific international cause to engage with colleagues with a similar interest. These groups are not required to register their activities or membership with the Joint Interparliamentary Council.
