Wednesday, November 21, 2001
The Sub-Committee of the Standing Committee on Public
Accounts on Combating Corruption met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 306, West
Block, the Chair, JohnWilliams, presiding.
Members of the Sub-Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Odina
Desrochers, Shawn Murphy and John Williams.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the
Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.
Witnesses: As Individual: John Williams, Member of Parliament.
From the International and Inter-Parliamentary Affairs: Luc Fortin,
Deputy Principal Clerk, Parliamentary Associations.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (1) and (2) and the Order of the Committee
dated Tuesday, May 8, 2001, the Sub-Committee proceeded to a Briefing Session
relating to a study on Combating Corruption.
At 3:37 p.m., Robert Bertrand took the Chair as Acting Chair.
John Williams made a statement inviting Parliamentarians to become involved
in Combating Corruption within the context of the Global Organization of
Parliamentarians Against Corruption and furthermore pointed out that the
Parliament of Canada will be hosting a Conference on the above mentioned
subject matter in September 2002.
The witnesses answered questions.
At 4:07 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
