The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Brad Butt, Chris Charlton, Ryan Cleary, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Ed Komarnicki, François Lapointe, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: John Carmichael for Phil McColeman.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Research in Motion: Morgan Elliott, Director, Government Relations. Information Technology Association of Canada: Karna Gupta, President and Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Coalition for Tomorrow's ICT Skills: David Ticoll, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Committee proceeded to the election of a Vice-Chair.
 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the First Vice-Chair.

 

On motion of Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, it was agreed, — That Chris Charlton be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, the Committee resumed its studies of “Fixing the Skills Gap: Addressing Existing Labour Shortages in High Demand Occupations” and “Understanding Labour Shortages: Addressing Barriers to Filling Low-Skilled Jobs”.
 
 

David Ticoll, Karna Gupta and Morgan Elliott made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
