The Legislative Committee on Bill C-18 met in a televised session at 7:34 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Blaine Calkins, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Malcolm Allen, David Anderson, Niki Ashton, Kelly Block, Blaine Calkins, Earl Dreeshen, Randy Hoback, Pat Martin, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Jean Rousseau, Kevin Sorenson, Brian Storseth, Frank Valeriote, Chris Warkentin and Bob Zimmer.

 

Other Members present: Pierre-Luc Dusseault and Elizabeth May.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Chief Analyst; Kristen E. Courtney, Analyst. House of Commons: David-Andrés Novoa, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: John Knubley, Deputy Minister; Greg Meredith, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy Branch. Canadian Grain Commission: Murdoch MacKay, Commissioner. Pulse Canada: Gordon Bacon, Chief Executive Officer. Grain Growers of Canada: Richard Phillips, Executive Director; Steve Vandervalk, President. Farmers of North America Inc.: Bob Friesen.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, October 24, 2011, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-18, An Act to reorganize the Canadian Wheat Board and to make consequential and related amendments to certain Acts.
 

John Knubley made a statement and with Greg Meredith, Murdoch MacKay, Gordon Bacon, Richard Phillips and Steve Vandervalk, answered questions.

 

At 9:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:50 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Bob Friesen made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
