The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in camera at 9:01 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, David Anderson, Hon. Navdeep Bains, Leon Benoit, Paule Brunelle, Nathan Cullen, Claude Guimond, Richard M. Harris, Russ Hiebert, Hon. Geoff Regan, Devinder Shory and Alan Tonks.

 

Associate Members present: Cheryl Gallant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Mohamed Zakzouk, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, the Hon. Christian Paradis, Minister of Natural Resources be invited to appear before the Committee on the Supplementary Estimates C for 2009-2010 and the Main Estimates for the fiscal year 2010-2011 on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 9:00 a.m..

 

It was agreed, — That, the last meeting in each month be reserved to deal with urgent matters which may arise in the course of the Committee's work plan.

 

It was agreed, — That, the Committee hold three to four meetings on the nuclear medical isotopes study which would include hearings from the major players and representatives from alternative suppliers. The study will include a visit by the Committee to Chalk River on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 to visit the NRU Reactor and receive a status report on the repairs and the potential impact of additional delays in the reactor coming on line.

 

It was agreed, — That, members submit their prioritized list of witnesses for the study on the nuclear medical isotopes to the Clerk of the Committee by 5:00 p.m., March 18, 2010.

 

It was agreed, — That, the Committee meet on Thursday, April 1, 2010 to discuss potential recommendations concerning the nuclear medical isotopes situation.

 

It was agreed, — That, the Committee hold three meetings on alternative energy programs, including departmental officials and experts in the fields renewal energy including of Carbon Capture and Sequestration; bio-fuels; solar; wind and tidal energy.

 

It was agreed, — That, members submit their prioritized list of witnesses for the study on alternative energy program to the Clerk of the Committee by 5:00 p.m., March 25, 2010.

 

It was agreed, — That, following its study on alternative energy programs, the Committee undertake a major study of the mining industry in Canada.

 

At 10:25 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
