The Standing Committee on Finance met jointly with the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, James Rajotte, Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance, and Mihael D. Chong, Chair of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Maxime Bernier, Robert Carrier, Bob Dechert, Jean-Yves Laforest, Hon. John McCallum, Hon. John McKay, James Rajotte and Mike Wallace.

Acting Members present: Hon. Dan McTeague for Massimo Pacetti.

Associate Members present: Dean Del Mastro and Martha Hall Findlay.

Members of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology present: Mike Wallace, Robert Bouchard, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Marc Garneau, Mike Lake, Anthony Rota, Dave Van Kesteren, Robert Vincent and Mike Wallace.

Acting Members present: Glenn Thibeault for Brian Masse.

Other Members present: Hon. Jim Flaherty.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Bergevin, Analyst ; Mark Mahabir, Analyst.

Witnesses: MasterCard Canada: Kevin Stanton, President; Andrea Cotroneo, Vice-President and Canada Region Counsel; Diane Miquelon, Vice-President and Team Lead, Account Management. Visa Canada: Tim Wilson, Head; Bill Sheedy, Regional President, North America and Head of Interchange Stragtegy.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 2, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of credit card interchange fees and the debit payment system in Canada.

Kevin Stanton made a statement and, with Andrea Cotroneo and Diane Miquelon, answered questions.

At 5:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:04 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Tim Wilson and Bill Sheedy made statements and answered questions.

At 6:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
