The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

On motion of Paul Crête, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget for the Committee's study of Challenges facing the Canadian manufacturing sector in the amount of $ 13000, for the period of October 24, 2006 to December 31, 2006 be adopted.

Paul Crête moved, — Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology recommends that the government impose a moratorium on implementing instructions respecting telecommunications policies recommended to the CRTC to allow the Committee to hear more witnesses in order to make a more thorough study and subsequently present a report to the House on the impact of the deregulation, and that the adoption of this motion be presented to the House of Commons as soon as possible.

Jean C. Lapierre moved, — That the motion be amended by adding the words “no later than March 1, 2007” after the word “deregulation”.

Paul Crête moved, — That the debate on the amendment be adjourned until 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2006 and that this item be the first item of business on that day.
