The Subcommittee on Public Safety and National Security of the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness met in a televised session at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Joe Comartin, Roy Cullen, Peter MacKay, Serge Ménard, Kevin Sorenson and Tom Wappel.

 

Acting Members present: Paul Harold Macklin for Paul Zed.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Daniel Jean, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Program Development. Department of the Solicitor General (Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness): Paul Kennedy, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Emergency Management and National Security. Canada Border Services Agency: Caroline Melis, Director General, Intelligence Directorate. Department of Justice: Daniel Therrien, Senior General Counsel, Office of the Assistant Deputy Attorney General. Canadian Security Intelligence Service: Robert F. Batt, Counsel.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of November 22, 2004, the Subcommittee resumed its study of the Anti-terrorism Act, Security Certificates.
 

Paul Kennedy made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the document entitled "Documents concerning Security Certificates", presented by Paul Kennedy, be filed as exibits with the Clerk of the Subcommittee. (See Exhibits "SNSN - A")

 

At 5:33 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
