Tuesday, March 27, 2001

The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Ovid Jackson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Ovid Jackson, Marcel Proulx, Alex Shepherd, Brent St.Denis, Paul Szabo, Andy Burton, Mario Laframboise.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Industrial Transportation Association: Lisa McGillivray, President; From the Canadian Maritime Law Association: James Gould, President; From the Shipping Federation of Canada (The): Gilles Bélanger, President; From the Canadian Board of Marine Underwriters: Douglas McRae, Chairman of the Legislative Committee, Art Payne, Past Chairman.

 In attendance:. From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: John Christopher, June Dewetering Researchers.

In accordance with the order of reference from the House of Commons dated February 23, 2001, the committee began it's consideration of Bill S-2, an act respecting Marine Liability, and to validate certain by-laws and regulations.

Each witness made a brief presentation and answered questions.

The meeting was suspended at 11:56 a.m.

The meeting was resumed at 12:02 p.m.

At 12:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
