Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology Releases its Final Report on Mental Health 

OTTAWA, May 8, 2006 – Today, the Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology releases “Out of the Shadows at Last”, its fifth and final report on mental health, mental illness and addiction in Canada.  The report is the culmination of over three years of extensive study and makes more than 100 recommendations designed to improve services for Canadians dealing with mental health issues.

The Committee has released twelve reports on health related issues since 2001.  The Committee completed the first phase of its mental health study in November 2004 with the publication of three reports: Mental Health, Mental Illness and Addiction: Overview of Policies and Programs in Canada; Mental Health Policies and Programs in Selected Countries, and Mental Health, Mental Illness and Addiction: Issues and Options in Canada. In November 2005, the Committee released A Proposal to Establish a Canadian Mental Health Commission. Previously, the Committee tabled six reports on The Health of Canadians – The Federal Role.
