Robert D. Flitton

Robert Flitton is the Manager of Governmental Affairs with Doman Industries Limited, a Coastal British Columbia forest company employing 4,000 people.  Mr. Flitton has been affiliated with Doman Industries for the past 10 years, and has represented Doman Industries Limited in the Canada United States softwood lumber negotiations since 2001.  

Mr. Flitton served as Deputy Minster for the Province of British Columbia for five years, having served in the Transportation, Forests, Lands and Energy portfolios.  Mr. Flitton was involved in the Canada United States softwood negotiations while Deputy Minister of Forests and Lands in 1986 and 1987 and served as Founding Co-Chairman of the Canada United States Skagit Commission.   

Previously, Mr. Flitton was self-employed businessman in the British Columbia real estate and development industry.  Mr. Flitton was elected the National President of the Canadian Home Builders Association in 1982 and Chaired the Association’s national Government Liaison Committee for 2 years.  

Mr. Flitton was born in Port Alberni, British Columbia and lives in Victoria.


Robert D. Flitton will appear before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee to share the views of Doman Industries limited with respect to the current softwood lumber negotiations between Canada and the United States.  Mr. Flitton will discuss softwood lumber market access, the resolution process in the softwood lumber dispute, difficulties encountered in reaching a settlement, and suggestions to remedy future problems.
