Committees examine, in small groups, selected matters in greater depth than is possible in the House of Commons. They report conclusions of those examinations, and recommendations, to the House. Committees undertake studies on departmental spending, legislation and issues related to their mandate.

As of Monday, January 30, 2017, the Wellington Building has been added to the venues available for House of Commons committee functions and events. Witnesses and visitors who want to attend a committee meeting in this building should use the public entrance located at 197 Sparks Street, Ottawa (map).
