Introduction
The House of Commons is the direct link between Canadians and Parliament. The people we elect to represent us gather here to create the laws we live by and to help ensure that the country is run in our best interests.
Because its members are elected by the people of Canada, the House of Commons is often considered to be the most powerful arm of Parliament. All citizens have access to that power through their Member of Parliament (MP).
Even students not yet old enough to vote can take part in the parliamentary process by sharing with their MPs their opinions on issues that matter to them.
To better understand the role they might play, students must first have an understanding of how our parliamentary system works. This resource offers teachers a means of introducing students to Parliament, to the House of Commons, and to the men and women who represent us there.
