Library of Parliament Research Publications

The following publications are prepared by the Library of Parliament’s Parliamentary Information and Research Service, which conducts research and provides information and analysis to parliamentarians, Senate and House of Commons committees, and parliamentary associations.

Current Publications

Under Current Publications you will find research publications that have been written or revised, for the most part, within the past two years. Some earlier papers may be included in this section if the subject matter and content are determined to have ongoing relevance.

Legislative Summaries

As their name implies, the Legislative Summaries summarize the government bills considered by Parliament, and explain their purpose and background in an unbiased, non-partisan manner. Legislative Summaries are updated as needed to reflect amendments made during the legislative process.

HillNotes

Designed in formats for desktop and mobile devices, HillNotes provide concise overviews of current and emerging issues of immediate interest, with links to related resources and recent news clippings. HillNotes are available each week that Parliament sits.

Trade and Investment Series

The Trade and Investment Activity publication series provides information on Canada’s trade and investment relationship with selected countries. Particular attention is paid to bilateral merchandise trade, trade in services and foreign investment.

Occasional and Commissioned Papers

Occasional Papers and Commissioned Papers are produced at the request of or with the assistance of the Library of Parliament, as part of its mandate to serve Parliament. Containing information, analysis or research on topics of interest to parliamentarians, they are prepared from time to time by Library staff, by other organizations or individuals, or in collaboration with the Library.

Archives

Archived publications are those that were written or revised two or more years ago.
