The Books of Remembrance contain the names of the men and women who died in service to Canada. There are seven books in total, which include names from the country's first expeditions until the most recent missions.
- The First World War Book of Remembrance was intended to be the sole book in the Chamber and hence was placed in the centre of the room. It remains the focal point of the room to this date, containing the names of over 66,600 Canadians. Six other books have been added to the Chamber over time.
- The South Africa - Nile Expedition Book of Remembrance honours those who volunteered for service in the campaign against the Boers in 1899-1902 and those who participated in the Nile Expedition, Canada's first overseas campaign from 1884 to 1886. It contains the names of 283 Canadians.
- The Newfoundland Book of Remembrance honours Newfoundlanders who perished in the First and Second World Wars. They are listed separately from the main books because Newfoundland had not yet joined Confederation at the time of those conflicts. It contains the names of 2,363 Canadians.
- The Second World War Book of Remembrance honours those who made the ultimate sacrifice from 1939 to 1945. Though fewer names are listed than are for the First World War, they are collected from more and farther regions of the world. It contains the names of over 44,800 Canadians.
- The Merchant Navy Book of Remembrance honours the merchant seamen who died in the critically important re-supply missions during both the First and Second World Wars. It contains the names of 2,199 Canadians.
- The Korean Book of Remembrance honours the men and women who died during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. It contains the names of 516 Canadians.
- The In the Service of Canada, the Seventh Book of Remembrance records the names of those who have died in military service to Canada, either at home or abroad, since October 1947, except for those already entered in the Korean book. This tome preserves the memory of the men and women who keep alive the Canadian traditions of selflessness and courage.
Inscriptions are in alphabetical order by year of death with the exception of the seventh book where names are entered in random order by year of death.
